Derby 124 Loser Awards
Derby 124's theme was
"Naughty and Nice". Wow, you can never judge a derby by it's theme. This theme sounded pretty groanworthy -- pick a theme that is ALREADY the topic of almost every shirt Woot prints. However, the artists took this and came up with original, artistic, and interesting designs (not universally of course!). Here's all of my favorites. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Oh No, They Say He's Got To Go" Award
On first glance, "Destructive Frolic" might seem somewhat cliched but it has lots of nice twists to the typical monster-destroying-a-city meme like a submarine collection in a bag of water and a butterfly net being used to catch an airplane. The city details are top notch and the colors are bright and fun. Great job.
The BLAs
Here's the rest of the designs I liked. Everyone mentioned today will be getting one of these in their Shirt.Woot entry comments and their
ShirtDerbyStats' badge list.

Wonderful characters on this Walmazan shirt -- I love the nerdy bacon victim!
| "ARR You Need is Love" is a refreshingly nonviolent entry with fantastic psychedelic colors.

Another city destroyed in TobiasFonseca's "Badzilla". Nicely understated and sketchy look to this.
| DeadFrog's "Wicked Oni" is a beautiful drawing of a touching scene.

"Goldfish of Doom" is a fun idea well-implemented.
| MarzipanApple's "When You're Away..." perfectly captures the theme with it's cutesy day-glo animals with vicious expressions.

I don't understand. Two of these designs were in the fog. How can you know already that these won't print?

paulkremer,
I used to avoid giving BLA's to shirts in the fog since it was statistically likely that the shirt I chose would print. Even then, I broke the rules when it was a shirt I really loved. Now that the chances of printing are so much slimmer and the number of shirts way more likely to include something I like, I don't try to limit which shirts I give awards to.
Thanks for asking!

OK, I'm glad! I still have hope the cat-hating goldfish of doom will print Saturday or Sunday. I was mortified to think that you somehow had information that it was already a "loser." :)

peter rabbit even gets the shaft here.

Sorry joehatter! Both of DeadFrog's entries this week were excellent but I awarded the one I preferred.
