Derby 136 Loser Awards
Derby 136's theme was
"The New Vintage". Woot has to throw out a text-heavy derby every once in a while. I think it's necessary. Every artist has some silly ideas that just need some text to really make it work. I think this derby really brought out some cool stuff. It also brought out a lot of thrown-together entries but, since pure slogans weren't allowed (there had to be SOMETHING drawn), it wasn't overwhelming. Here's our favorites. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Purple Rain" Award
I know I have way too many Asphalt shirts but I love crisp bold designs like this. Great color choices, shirt layout, and I really love the extra touch of the "splash" on the umbrella. Very pro.
The BLAs
Here's the rest of the designs you and I liked. Everyone mentioned today will be getting one of these in their Shirt.Woot entry comments and their
ShirtDerbyStats' badge list.

Probably the most authentic feeling entry this week -- exactly the type of shirt you'd be looking for and lucky to find at GoodWill.
| Paul Kremer says "Easily the best entry this week, in my mind. I'm always a fan of Walmazan, but especially this week as these guacamole ingredients get ready to bar fight themselves into a delicious dip for my next party."

Ressamac's shirt has a cool "Pink Panther" look and good color choices. Also, I wish other people would have thought of doing the "text as art" angle -- I would have liked to have seen more of these.
| Avhienda01's "Sweet Happiness" has a fun 70s hippie vibe with great use of the limited palette.

GeekFactor12 says "Hilarious concept with a great character." I like that the animals are aware of their fate except for the oblivious bunny.
| PaulKremer says "I don't know that I can explain what it is about this design I like so much other than I love the limited color palate and what TheDoob did with it!"
