Derby 236 Loser Awards
Derby 236's theme was
"Watercolors". Simulating watercolors using only halftones and 6 colors definitely thinned the ranks of artists who were able to effectively compete. Almost too thin since it feels like the technical skills overshadowed much in the way of cleverness or humor. Still, there's a lot to be impressed with this week. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Yorick's Last Kiss" Award
I tried not to like this since there's nothing more overused than a skull on a shirt. I kept coming back to the stunning composition and the only shirt that really simulates a water-heavy brush. Gorgeous and amazing.
The BLAs
Here's the rest of the designs you and I liked. Everyone mentioned today will be getting one of these nifty BestLoser badges in their Shirt.Woot entry comments thread.

Zagazoo's evocative "Pilgrimage" has a wonderful mood and is one of the few shirts this week that doesn't treat the background color just as a canvas.
| GeekFactor12 says "I like how this design almost feels abstract at first, and only becomes a landscape as you look closer."

Patrickspens work is always flawless and manages to do more with 6-colors than you would think is possible.
| Radscoolian has a nice mix of techniques simulated here: pencil sketches mixed with sponged colors plus a very realistic watercolor tube. Very nice.

I really like the nice mix of grays and subtle color in CrescentDebris' "Glass of WaterColor".
| A simple tree is made extraordinary with the simulated light shining through the leaves in Ramyb's "Blossom".

Kasey, I have to ask -- did you start with scanning an IRL watercolor? The edges of the colors are amazingly realistic.
Zagazoo
Thank you for the award! It's really nice to have my work appreciated, my design probably won't get printed but it made it all worth it for this acknowledgement. I also found your comment above to be quite appealing ("evocative", an adjective I always like to hear), I plan to do more utilizing of the shirt color in the future. And once again, seriously, thank you!

Zagazoo, keep up the great work! I hope to see you participate more in the derbies.
