Derby 79 Loser Awards
Derby 79's theme was
"Myth". That's not a theme I would have expected to produce so many interesting entries -- I was pleasantly surprised. Strangely enough, there was no official word on how text would be treated this time. Amazingly, nobody abused the privilege and went crazy with slogan shirts. It was really tough to limit the number of awards this week but here's the ones you and I liked best. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Fryer Tuck" Award
Picasserole's "Red Robin Hood" is a stunningly detailed entry mixing myth and nature and realism and cuteness all in one crisp package. A fantastic shirt from this up-and-coming Woot artist.
The "Crouching, Hiding, Etc." Award nominated by John Patrick and Mjc613
TheInfinityLoop's "Kung Fu Hangout" shows a selection of Kung Fu style's animal inspirations standing around in surprisingly non-threatening poses. Mjc613 was reminded of Rousseau’s "The Repast Of The Lion" due to forest motif and striking colors.
Honorable Mentions
Here's the rest of the shirts you and I liked with a word or two on what caught our eyes. Everyone mentioned today will be getting one of these in their Shirt.Woot entry comments and their
ShirtDerbyStats' badge list.

Great colors and the characters have a bold mix of realism and personality.
| Takes Atlas’ traditional position and gives it a modern interpretation. Just wonderful. Edgar's other entry is also great -- just not enough room this week!

This one was definitely looked over by the voters -- a unique hand-drawn style and subtle colors. I look forward to seeing more from Morriconei.
| BootsBoots signature eye-popping style along with nutritional info and great color, all in tribute to Johnny Appleseed.

Mjc613 thinks it deserves the "Least Like a Soap Opera" Award.
| DavidShenoda consistently has fantastic drawings and this one is no exception.

Another newcomer, Tnt138 has great comic-style lines in this one.
| Probably the funniest entry in this derby. The single-color adds to the subtlety and makes it all the more clever.

If you'd like your favorite shirt to show up here next week, send in your nominations by mid-Tuesday. Give me some reasons why it is the greatest thing Woot will ever see and I'll include the best ones. Longer entries are more likely to make it outside the Honorable Mention section just for formatting reasons. Please include a link to the derby entry.
