Sunday, February 28, 2010Jasneko has been plugging away consistently at Woot for about a year and it finally paid off with her first print! Here's more about her.
Shirt.Woot Stats? (first derby / shirts bought / shirts printed)
83 (Exercise) / 7 / 1. I started Derby 83 and have submitted to every derby since. I've bought quite a few randoms in addition to my 7 shirts. My very first purchase was "New Waves" for someone else; it is an awesome shirt, I'd like one for myself. This is my first print - nearly one year after my first submission. I've had 10 Honorable Mentions (and a few BLAs) in the meantime though, which felt great to get.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010Derby 135's theme was
"Faster, Higher, Stronger". An Olympics-inspired theme without having to do with the Olympics at all -- they were looking for Olympic-style striving done for other topics. The list of banned memes continues to grow -- after this week, don't be surprised to see "Star Wars" on that list. The "Rocky In Slo-mo" Award
These two guys are going to work their way out of their "slow" reputation. Walmazan always has wonderful characters and these two heroes are no exception.

Thursday, February 18, 2010First, I apologize for the late awards this week. I'm embarrassed to admit I was thrown off the Monday holiday and everything is a day off this week!
Derby 134 was the
Double-Take Derby #8 where all the shirts that Woot liked but didn't get printed get a second chance. Yesterday, I talked about the top 5 shirts they missed. Today, it will be the top 5 shirts (again in no particular order) that don't look likely to be printed but really should be. In addition, I have predictions for what shirts are likely to be printed next week when Woot picks their Editor's Choices. Double-Take Derby #8 and since not every shirt can come back for a another chance there are a few entries that are sorely missed. This is the top 5 shirts (in no particular order) that I'm sorry aren't here for a second chance -- the Shoulda Been Awards.

"Chinese Zodiac". A pleasant change of pace for a theme with some pretty strict restrictions: no video game refs, and no text -- not even Chinese text. The "Puddle Jumper" Award
RiceCupcake's "All Aboard the Roost-Aircraft" is charmingly weird with great colors. Now this is a yellow shirt I could wear.

Monday, February 08, 2010I'm trying out some new code that should block out most spam so comments are live again. I'm going to keep the Buy and Vote galleries moderated since spam there is automatically sent to so many RSS and Twitter subscribers. Meanwhile, make sure to only include links in fields that ask for it. Links in the general comment field are a no-no and will autodelete your comment!

"Heart". A simple textless theme -- wide open enough to get way more entries than usual. It also seemed like there were more unfinished entries -- lots of "almost there" shirts for me -- designs that needed just a bit more work to really be worth a print. The "Must Love Books" Award
ILoveDoodle's "Heart Reader" is a pleasant warm design with subdued colors. Nice details like the goldfish and the cat with a kerchief make it a truly charming shirt.
