May 2009
Wednesday, May 27, 2009Derby 96's theme was
"Dance". A solid theme -- not too specific, not too general. It felt like there were a lot of half-finished or almost-there entries this time. I did find a handful I'm rather fond of though. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "When The Bird Sings" Award
I hate to give the same artist the top-billing on the BLAs two weeks in a row but DeadFrog deserves it. This is a great illustration. A large design like this wouldn't usually work off-center but in this case it does. Great simple and bold colors too.

Wednesday, May 20, 2009Derby 95's theme was
"Pointillism". It's nice to have a technique derby again after so long even if it isn't one I particularly care for. As many people predicted, Woot wasn't very strict with their own rules for this derby and many shirts that broke the rules did well. Besides those, here's some that stuck to the rules and created attractive and unique shirts. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Platyllism" Award nominated by Nevetnod
I always like DeadFrog's designs and this one is no exception. Great choice of colors to give the picture depth and the size of the design works well with the limitations of the brush size. Great stuff.

Friday, May 15, 2009Toe2254's former BLA-awarded shirt, "The Amazing Watch of Ra" is available for voting at Teextile. Vote early and often.
If your former Woot shirt is up for vote or for sale somewhere else, please let me know and I'll blog about it.
Wednesday, May 13, 2009Derby 94's theme was
"Air". That sounds like a pretty tame theme -- not too general, not too specific. Amazingly, it triggered some psychedelic urge in the artists since there were plenty of pleasantly unusual and fantastical entries. Here's my favorites. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "99 Knights Of The Air" Award
Omnitarian makes his derby debut in style with "Float on". There's a dozen shirts' worth of great characters in those balloon faces and cool subdued colors to match. Awesome.

Tuesday, May 12, 2009JewelWing reworked her BLA-awarded "Everyone Knew When He Was In the Mood for Dance" and resubbed it at Threadless with the new title, "Phillip is Fabulous". Check it out and vote generously!

Thursday, May 07, 2009As most of you know by now, Cameesa is one of the better places to buy former Woot shirts. For the artists, you only need 50 supporters to get your shirt printed and now
it's only $10 a pop. For the supporters, you not only get your shirt, but you actually make profits on each shirt sold. Read more on
how it works and
how much I made my first month.

Wednesday, May 06, 2009Derby 93 was the
Double-Take Derby #5 where all the shirts that Woot liked but didn't get printed get a second chance. Yesterday, I talked about the top 5 shirts they missed. Today, it will be the top 5 shirts (again in no particular order) that don't look likely to be printed but really should be. In addition, I have predictions for what shirts are likely to be printed next week when Woot picks their Editor's Choices. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.

Tuesday, May 05, 2009We're in the middle of
Double-Take Derby #5 and since not every shirt can come back for a another chance there are a few entries that are sorely missed. This is the top 5 shirts (in no particular order) that I'm sorry aren't here for a second chance -- the Shoulda Been Awards.
Tomorrow instead of the normal Best Loser Awards there will be another top 5 list -- the top 5 shirts that should have printed but were not. You're welcome to try to sway me with your nominations but there will be no award names or write-ups so don't bother sending those.
