Derby 204 Loser Awards
Derby 204's theme was
"I Love Books". The theme was books but all pop culture references (minus Star Wars) as well as text were fair game. I loved the theme and wished I had more time to participate but the results were mixed -- there were a lot of great shirts but too few that really celebrated books. Here's your favorites and mine. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Astounding Stories" Award
Qetza is a very infrequent contributor to Shirt.Woot. If you check out his
other entries you'll see he definitely has a unique style. This shirt has a cool mid-century sci-fi vibe, both in composition and color. I'd love to wear this one!
The BLAs
Here's the rest of the designs you and I liked. Everyone mentioned today will be getting one of these nifty BestLoser badges in their Shirt.Woot entry comments thread.

Awesome silhouette in MarzipanApple's "A Grimm Tale". I love the "bad princess" vibe here!
| There's a million tiny details of many favorite books in PixelPants' "Shelf Life". Look closer and enjoy.

GeekFactor12 say "A subtle, well-crafted reference to a great Twilight Zone episode, with impressive attention to detail."
| Very well done illustration of story titles! I figured out 2 of the 3 just based on my limited high school familiarity with Jack London.

CDrewlow says "There are a lot of great 'I love books' shirts, but midgerock's is the only one that says 'I love books and think we shouldn't alter the author's original wording because it makes people uncomfortable.' This deserves more votes."
| Pharmacide says "I like the books haunted expression and the shadow that contains even more horrors. Rogerrogerroger has a unique illustrative style and this is no different."

PixelPants
I agree with you ThatRobert. It was a great theme and I'm glad to see MarzipanApple's get recognition here. My rave already went into her comment thread, but it was a real stand-out among a bunch of other strong designs. Apelad's Mark Twain shirt kept me laughing, as did the string of comments. Thanks for giving the Best Loser, I appreciate community recognition for something I have invested time and creative energy on.

Oh man, all of these are great. Some have a message, some are neat jokes, and all of them are interesting to look at.

Such a great theme. This contest was a lot of fun not only as a designer, but also as a fan because of the large amount of fantastic entries! I'm glad I was able to come up with something and am very grateful for the response it has received. Thanks for "Best Loser" award. I really appreciate it!

I hope you get printed Qetza. If so, I'll be first in line to buy!

Thanks for the award! It's pretty disheartening to not win, but it looks like I was in good company. Lots of great work.

Rads, you really never know what will tickle the voters' fancy...
