Derby 229 Loser Awards
Derby 229's theme was
"Roleplaying in Everyday Life". Although this derby was about as wide open as you can get rule-wise, it didn't get too bad -- thankfully the artists were more interested in exploring actual roleplaying ideas instead of trying to shoehorn in something from somewhere else. I have a bit of a weakness for roleplaying -- being a long-time AD&D fan -- so I liked more than I usually would for a pop-heavy topic like this. Here's my favorites. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "No Saving Throw" Award
SpiritGreen's "Critical Hit" is a wonderful twist on the dinosaur/asteroid meme. I love the colors and composition on this as well as the nerdy dinosaur characters. The triceratops facial hair is the best; that's a good look for him!
The BLAs
Here's the rest of the designs you and I liked. Everyone mentioned today will be getting one of these nifty BestLoser badges in their Shirt.Woot entry comments thread.

If I knew young gelatinous cubes looked this cute, maybe I would've been kinder to them. Great twist and great colors from DianaSprinkle.
| GeekFactor12 says "Weird is wonderful!" and I have to add I'm loving the colors and sharp lines on this one.

One of the few entries that takes a serious mood. Beautiful lines and textures here and a fantastic barely-visible and malevolent looking cat.
| LyonScc is obviously a roleplayer and went crazy with many entries this week. This is my favorite. Glad that we had at least one shirt with a joke on dice notation. Well played and also a solid wearable shirt.

SilverDream's "Checkpoints" has a wonderfully weird sketchy vibe and bright fun colors. I'm really digging it.
| It was sad when they starting larping and the little brown one thought he saw a real human in a cave and from then on he was trapped in his own reality and when his friends came to visit him years later they played one last time for old time's sake but for him it was real. That was sad.
Seriously though, a lovely effort from newcomer SpyyderRay. Fun idea, lovely colors, and nice organic style.

Hey, thanks for the mention! I'm so glad the design was such a hit, even if it isn't getting printed. I really didn't expect this more unusual style to get much cred, but it looks like I was wrong.
But never fear, you will see stuff from me again!

SpyyderRay, I'm looking forward to it!
