November 2009
Monday, November 30, 2009I've implemented two new galleries for BestLosers that allow YOU -- the artist or fan -- to add new shirts automatically that are either up for sale or up for vote. Please check out the corresponding
Buy and
Vote galleries.
At the same time, I've updated the FAQ and consolidated it with the old About page. Please let me know if you see any spelling, grammar, or other boo-boos. Thanks!
Thursday, November 26, 2009Derby 122's theme was
"Family". A simple and fun theme. Here's my favorites. Unfortunately, I'm posting this a day late so this will be short and sweet -- sorry, but there's no comments for most of these. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "That's A Spicy Meatball" Award
Walmazan does a stunning job of making "cute" shirts that tell a story, have a unique personality, and aren't at all cloying or cliched. His entry this week, "There's Nothing Like Family" is all those things along with some great color choices. Wonderful.

Sunday, November 22, 2009BassAnimation has only been around for a few weeks and already has scored a 1st place print in the Doubletake derby. Here's more about her.
Shirt.Woot Stats? (first derby / shirts bought / shirts printed)
114 (Cooking) / ~10 / 1. I created Monsterpot, which is actually my very first tshirt contest entry ever. I've bought so many recently that I'm losing count. Under 10 right now, but I'm working my way up. I only found out about Woot very recently when a friend wore Fablefire's bunny shirt to my house.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009Derby 121's theme was
"Propaganda for Everyday Life". The theme was more specific than usual -- propaganda poster style illustrating an everyday unspoken rule. Obviously the artists didn't quite get the gist of the theme and we had a repeat of the original Propaganda theme from many derbies ago. Woot decided to let it slide probably since so many people got it wrong. After that, it felt like it turned into a free-for-all. Not only are many shirts unrejected for not illustrating an unspoken rule -- it seems many of the shirts don't really have a propaganda style and have just turned into slogans. Sorry, but I'm going to have to be tough on the theme though so it will be a short Best Loser Awards today. Here's the few that followed the rules and look great too. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Yes, You Better" Award
Perryn's "You Can Do It Too" appropriates the classic WWII "Yes We Can" to good effect letting men know in no uncertain terms what women expect. Great comic-style colors.

Thursday, November 12, 2009I've submitted a new shirt design at Threadless. Please take a look and vote. It is a "meme" shirt to a certain degree but don't let that cat scare you away!

Wednesday, November 11, 2009Derby 120 was the
Double-Take Derby #7 where all the shirts that Woot liked but didn't get printed get a second chance. A couple days ago, I talked about the top 5 shirts they missed. Today, it will be the top 5 shirts (again in no particular order) that don't look likely to be printed but really should be. In addition, I have predictions for what shirts are likely to be printed next week when Woot picks their Editor's Choices. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.

Monday, November 09, 2009We're in the middle of
Double-Take Derby #7 and since not every shirt can come back for a another chance there are a few entries that are sorely missed. This is the top 5 shirts (in no particular order) that I'm sorry aren't here for a second chance -- the Shoulda Been Awards.
On Wednesday, instead of the normal Best Loser Awards there will be another top 5 list -- the top 5 shirts that should have printed but were not. You're welcome to try to sway me with your nominations but there will be no award names or write-ups so don't bother sending those.

Wednesday, November 04, 2009Derby 119's theme was
"Flight". We've seen themes similar to this many times so I don't feel like the artists were particularly inspired. That, plus the fact that Woot all but begged for a slew of penguin shirts made for a pretty disappointing derby. Here's a few wonderful exceptions. As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the full-size shirt and comments on Shirt.Woot.
The "Petunia" Award
ILOVEDOODLE's "Flying" has tons of wonderful details: the repeating wave pattern morphing into the coral below, the pattern repeating on the whale's underside in a lighter color, the whale's tail appearing like another bird in flight, and the crowd of underwater friends flying along with the whale. Great color choices too. WANT!
